For this year’s Total Solar Eclipse, we invite you to join us for the day and the weekend before for a whole lot of fun!  We’re right in the path of totality–a rare event that Ohio won’t see again until 2099.

Of the 13 U.S. states in the narrow path of totality, Ohio is right smack dab in the heart of it all. A total solar eclipse is a rare and spectacular event. On average, one happens somewhere on Earth only once every 1.5 years, and only 21 solar eclipses have crossed the lower 48 U.S. states in its entire existence. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806.

The eclipse will be visible for about four minutes beginning at approximately 3:08 on Monday, April 8th. We’re so excited and planning activities for that 4-minute event, of course, plus all kinds of fun, engaging and educational events and activities throughout the entire weekend leading up to the big event.

ABOUT THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE

 

On Monday, April 8, 2024, people within a 124-mile-wide band in the state of Ohio will experience a total solar eclipse.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and the earth. The moon then causes the light of the sun to be blocked from reaching earth, casting a shadow on earth, and in rare portions of the path, a total shadow. In order words, we’re going to get mooned in Preble County!

A total solar eclipse is a rare and spectacular event. The total eclipse will begin around 2:00pm and end at approximately 4:30pm on April 8, 2024.

On average, an eclipse happens every 1.5 years somewhere on Earth but only 21have crossed the lower 48 states in the entire existence of the United States. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806.  The next total solar eclipse in Ohio will be in the year 2099.

VIEWING GLASSES ARE NECESSARY

In order to safely view and prevent damage, the solar eclipse (and present eyesight damage), viewers will need to wear ISO Certified Solar eclipse glasses.
