Dixons Branch Covered Bridge
The Dixon Branch Bridge was built in 1887 by E.S. Sherman. The structure originally spanned 60 feet to carry Concord Road across Dixon Branch and was located 6.5 miles southwest of Eaton. One of fourteen Childs truss bridges constructed by Sherman in Preble County, its total construction cost was $1,824. The bridge was named after early settler Eli Dixon.
In 1963, a windstorm destroyed the bridge’s roof. County officials decided to replace the wooden bridge with a concrete and steel structure, granting the Civitan Club of Lewisburg permission to remove the covered bridge. The club reconstructed it in Lewisburg Community Park, reducing its length to 50 feet, at a cost of about $100, with all other costs covered by donated labor and equipment. The Dixon Branch Bridge was dedicated on July 4, 1964, during the village Independence Day celebrations.
