Geeting Covered Bridge

Built: 1894
Length: 100 ft.
Builders: E.S. Sherman, Koppee Brothers
Project cost (1894): $2,691

The Geeting Covered Bridge, the only covered bridge ever built in Monroe Township, spans Price’s Creek on Price Road. The bridge sits three miles west of Lewisburg. Constructed in 1894 by E.S. Sherman for $1,350, with abutments by the Koppee Brothers for $1,054, the total cost was $2,691. Before its construction, a creek ford and foot log were the only means of crossing the stream.

Dave Geeting owned the farm southwest of the bridge. Thrilled with the construction, Geeting was the first to cross the bridge in his horse and buggy. The 100-foot bridge has faced several challenges: its roof was blown off in 1914, roof framing was damaged by a truck in 1969, and floor beams were occasionally broken by overloaded trucks. Despite these setbacks, the bridge was consistently repaired and restored to sound condition.
