Christman Covered Bridge
Built: 1895
Length: 100 ft.
Builders: E.S. Sherman, Harry C. Foster
Project cost (1895): $2,452
The heavily traveled Eaton–New Hope Road had no bridge over Seven Mile Creek until the 100-foot Christman Bridge was built in 1895. It was named after local landowner Solomon Christman. Christman also owned a water-powered sawmill downstream, with remnants visible near the bridge.
Debates over wood vs. iron bridges culminated in a wooden bridge built by E.S. Sherman for $1,301, despite not being the lowest bidder, due to his reliable reputation. Harry C. Foster did the masonry for $499, using stone from Eaton Stone Company, bringing the total cost to $2,452.
The Christman Bridge is located near the northwest corner of Eaton.
